I. The Borrowed Sky

Up past the rafters, past the rusted weather-vane, past the soft hush of the windowpane, a small brown mouse in a borrowed cape tied the wide blue sky on like a shape.

II. The Autumn Wind

The goose was kind, the air was thin, the rivers all turned amber-skin. And Amos, hat-strap snug and tight, rode autumn home into the night.

III. The Wire

One paw, one breath, one quiet star, the lanterns glow from near and far. He does not fall. He does not run. He simply walks, from none to one.

IV. The Kitchen

Take a thimble of butter, a whisper of thyme, stir it slow, give it time. What you cook with care — a mouse will share, and share again, when the kettle's there.

V. The City of Whispers (excerpt)

The city had a thousand rooftops and not one of them belonged to him. Still, Amos walked them all, looking for a crumb of starlight, no bigger than a tooth.

Between the chapters, three signed prints: the cape, the goose, the lantern. Each one numbered, each one small, each one stitched between the pages like a window in a wall.

The hand-bound edition is sewn, not glued. The paper is the colour of cream gone slightly bold. The endpapers are the blue of a borrowed sky. The ribbon is the gold of an autumn afternoon.
